Cremin Family History
Recorded as Creamen, Cremen, Cremin, Cremins, Crimin, Crimmin, Crimmins, and possibly others, this is a rare and unusual surname. There is a saying amongst researchers, that if you are stuck on a name, look in Ireland, and sure enough again the system has worked. This is a rare and ancient Irish surname. Originally O' Cruimin, meaning literally "The grandson (or male descendant) of the disabled one," it is a surname of the province of Munster, and very much from the far south west counties of Cork and Kerry. Cremin
My grandfather, Cecil John Dillon, was born June 23, 1887, to Dr Patrick T Dillon and Ellen Cremin, at Ballydonohue House county Kerry/Limerick. The 1901 census records Ellen A Cremin Dillon as 40 years of age. I recall a story that Ellen Cremin's parents purchased Ballydonohue House as a wedding gift for Patrick T Dillon and Ellen. Any information regarding this story or Ellen's parents would be greatly appreciated. As I live in Canada, I have limited access to physical evidence.
